About Computer Technology
COMPUTERS:
We currently have approximately 200 computers available for student and staff use. All computers are networked and centrally managed allowing maintenance of software to be conducted easily. All computers are connected to the internet allowing students and staff access at speeds equalling ADSL. This link will be upgraded considerably early in 2009.
The computer are distributed as follows:
4 x Labs containing between 17 and 25 computers. 3 of these are for cross curriculum use.
2 x Pods of computers containing between 5 and 10 computers in the Library and a Maths classroom.
The remaining computers are distributed around the school in classrooms and staffrooms and for administrative purposes.
Staff use our wireless network in conjunction with notebooks and projectors to bring technology into almost all classrooms.
Please note that at this time we discourage students bring their own personal notebooks to school unless there is a valid medical reason. There is a concern that they can use this technology to evade our internet security and gain uncensored access to the internet which is against DET policy.
INTERACTIVE WHITEBOARDS:
The school has one interactive whiteboard located in one of our computer labs.
In the near furture, interactive whiteboards will be installed in the English, Maths, Science, HSIE, PDHPE and Creative Arts faculties with plans to expand the use of these boards to Learning Support and other areas of the school as educational needs are determined.
VIDEO CONFERENCING:
As part of the DET Connected Classrooms Project, we should receive video conferencing equipment by the end of 2008. This equipment is intended in the future to set up video links between our students and world experts in a range of fields giving students the opportunity to connect with the real world like never before.
WIRELESS NETWORK and FEDERALLY FUNDED "DIGITAL EDUCATION REVOLUTION" COMPUTERS
The school has recently ordered 94 notebook computers as part of the "Digital Education Revolution" computer rollout from the Federal Government. These computers will be provided to assist senior students at the school. As part of this implementation the school will also receive a significant upgrade of its wireless network system.
We have not been provided with instructions about how the 94 computers are to be distributed and used at the school. The school community will be informed as information becomes available.
